DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE
I have been spending the afternoon skipping around the streets of London celebrating my new plant based barnet! What a lovely thought that no animals or their produce are hiding amongst my strands.
Today i lost my vegan hair virginity with a visit to to The Rabbit Hole in West Kennsington- one of the ONLY vegan hair salons in London.
Dori the owner is a delight. With a soft calming nature and thirst for all things vegan and cruelty free. She has been a vegan for 12 years and felt frustrated by having to work in salons that used animal based hair products…so like the queen that she is…she set about opening her own salon…and so ‘The Rabbit hole’ was born.
I popped in for a quick Blow dry and Dori used all of her wonderful products from ‘ORGANIC COLOUR SYSTEM’.
If you would like to check your products to see if they have any animal ingredients in them i have compiled a quick list of common ingredients found in hair care…
HAIRSPRAY, LOTIONS AND SHAMPOO:
Cetyl Alcohol: A wax found in the spermaceti (head cavity) of whales, dolphins, and other cetaceans. (Vegan option available)
Stearic Acid: It can come from the fats of cows, pigs, and even domestic euthanised pets. Vegan variations from cocoa beans and sea butters available.
HAIR MASKS:
Hyaluronic Acid: Usually derived from rooster combs, eyeballs and giblets. (Vegan version available)
Keratin: Found in animal hooves, feathers and horns.
CREAMS AND CONDITIONERS:
Biotin: Found in all living cells, and in large quantities in milk and yeast. (vegan option available)
